The modern European Doberman is a wonderful healthy animal with a magnificent character. Over the past 20 years, the breed has become very popular. But every medal has a flip side: popularity does not always contribute to the improvement of the breed.
It is encouraging, according to the author, that under the influence of a set of tough measures (health research and testing) taken by the German Dobermann club (DV.e. V.) and the International Doberman club (IDC) (President Mr. Hans Wiblishauser), the number of animals allowed for breeding is significantly limited.
To protect the breed from the so-called breeders who, speculating on its popularity, are in a hurry to satisfy their short-term commercial interests and are practically not engaged in breeding, but in the “mass reproduction” of Dobermans (with all the ensuing consequences), a series of tests has been developed in Europe in the main areas of research : Continue reading
“It is still unclear whether the removal of the Doberman is the result of ingenious selection, or is it pure coincidence.” Ernst Wilking.
The founder of the breed is Friedrich Louis Dobermann, who was born on January 2, 1834, in the small town of Apolda, in southern Germany. The range of activity of this outstanding person was incredibly large. It is known, for example, that he worked as a night policeman, was a tax collector, worked on a flipper where, according to some versions, he bought up breeding material that fed meat from a city cattle slaughterhouse, where he also once worked.
“Legends still circulate about Friedrich Louis Doberman. In some, he figures as a brilliant breeder-delitant with a high aesthetic sense and phenomenal intuition, in others he acts as the favorite of fortune, who accidentally attacked the“ gold mine ”. (E. Rosenberg )
What was the reason for the breeding of a new breed? There are also a lot of guesses and versions. Here is one of them: “As a tax collector, and also working as a night policeman, Friedrich Louis naturally exposed his life to dangers, and he needed a satellite next to which he could feel absolutely calm. Apparently this is a circumstance, as well as personal qualities character of the creator himself was the beginning. In any case, it is known that the main principle of selecting dogs for breeding work was a set of working qualities. Continue reading
There is no such person who does not know the Doberman breed. So I know her. And I really wanted to share my thoughts, conclusions and observations with readers. I will not refer to the breed standard, as it is available to everyone. There is simply a standard, and that’s all said. I want to share what I see really at exhibitions, on the streets, at competitions. At exhibitions dogs, vaguely resembling Dobermans, are exhibited. These are monster dogs. They are heavy, rough, crude, inactive and, sorry, “frozen.”
Where is the elegant, dry, strong, well-muscled dog! And they are completely gone! In pursuit of a hypertrophied exterior, for the maximum amount of imports in pedigrees, the breeders forgot the original purpose of this breed. Just don’t think that I don’t know the difference between a show dog and a working dog. In this breed, there can be no division into “workers” and “non-working”: after all, the Doberman is the first breed of dog in the world, purposefully created to protect humans. These dogs have such a super-fast response that no other breed can compare with them. These are tireless dogs that can, and most importantly, wish to work and move tirelessly as much as is required of them. Continue reading
