“His Majesty Doberman” is a thing of the past
There is no such person who does not know the Doberman breed. So I know her. And I really wanted to share my thoughts, conclusions and observations with readers. I will not refer to the breed standard, as it is available to everyone. There is simply a standard, and that’s all said. I want to share what I see really at exhibitions, on the streets, at competitions. At exhibitions dogs, vaguely resembling Dobermans, are exhibited. These are monster dogs. They are heavy, rough, crude, inactive and, sorry, “frozen.”
Where is the elegant, dry, strong, well-muscled dog! And they are completely gone! In pursuit of a hypertrophied exterior, for the maximum amount of imports in pedigrees, the breeders forgot the original purpose of this breed. Just don’t think that I don’t know the difference between a show dog and a working dog. In this breed, there can be no division into “workers” and “non-working”: after all, the Doberman is the first breed of dog in the world, purposefully created to protect humans. These dogs have such a super-fast response that no other breed can compare with them. These are tireless dogs that can, and most importantly, wish to work and move tirelessly as much as is required of them.
To this day, Dobermans are used as working dogs by police of different countries. By the way, do you know that Dobermans are centenarians? They live up to 13-14 years and retain excellent physical shape until old age. It was about the Dobermans that it was always said that they were dying in motion. Dogs of this breed have one feature – this is the sharp look of smart and mischievous eyes. A spark of enthusiasm, courage and a desire to work shine in Doberman’s gaze.
Someone, having read all this, will say: “What kind of Dobermans are we talking about? Where can such people be seen?” Unfortunately, and chagrin, “true Dobermans” today are very rare. Dogs of this breed, presented to us at exhibitions and sometimes at competitions (where they have not occupied prizes for a long time), no longer possess the pedigree characteristics I have listed. They are so massive that they refuse to actively spend time, cannot fully move.
Constant shortness of breath due to overweight makes it impossible for them to work on the trail. If you run 3 kilometers with such a Doberman, then he will not come to the finish line. All this is due to the fact that the type of breed constitution is slowly but surely changing, the skeleton approaches rough, and the ligaments become weaker. Dampness appears – this is a suspension on the neck, these are ears that simply cannot be stopped, as they will never stand up. A huge and heavy chest does not increase lung capacity, but creates a lot of problems for the dog. And many many others. Observing all this, we can say that modern Dobermans have turned into mestizos – into “Doberman-Rottweilers”. Although the standard clearly indicates the maximum weight of the dogs.
And the last thing I would like to write about is working qualities. Despite the fact that many representatives of this breed have diplomas in various types of training, they cannot work due to their physiology: weak heart, shortness of breath, weak ligamentous apparatus. By the way, the lifespan of the Dobermans has sharply decreased. Now at the age of 5-6 they look decrepit “old men”, and many of them end their lives at this age. As for the intelligent and mischievous look of the Doberman, he went out, and his eyes became like the eyes of a “sad basset.”
Of course, you can’t talk about all the Dobermans in the city, that they are just like that, no! There were still standard dogs, but there are very, very few of them. Therefore, I want to appeal to the breeders, to the leaders of nurseries and clubs: “Let us follow the standards in breeding, deducing the desired breed type. Do not chase powerful and imported bloods that do not improve, but only worsen the breed!”
