White Doberman: is it worth chasing exotic?

White Doberman: is it worth chasing exotic?
A rare white Doberman with blue eyes, a devoted character and absolute fearlessness … An excellent description for lovers of strict serious and unique dogs. But which of this is true, and which is only what we want, which we want to consider real? Let’s get it right.

By standards, Dobermans recognize black or dark brown color. White or cream individuals are actually sick with a rare genetic disease – albinism. The first dog with this color appeared in 1976 in the United States with ordinary parents. It was a bitch. When she grew up, she was crossed with a male of a standard color, and the puppies that were born went into the father, as the albinism gene is recessive. Then the white female was crossed again, but with her son, the bearer of this trait. It was from this pair that the Dobermans of unusual color went.

However, the joy in this regard was short-lived. Together with the white coat, the Dobermans albinos inherited a whole bunch of diseases and deviations. The immunity of such dogs is greatly reduced, which is why they often get sick. Common problems include baldness, dermatitis, cancer, and other skin lesions. Albinos also suffer from photophobia, which already negatively affects their security and service qualities, which are famous for representatives of this breed with a normal color.

White Dobermans hear and see worse, as they often cover their eyes in the light. Because of this, dogs can collide with objects surrounding them, seem clumsy. And, of course, this state of affairs could not but affect their character. In comparison with a smart, confident (sometimes even self-confident), courageous, persistent and reliable Doberman, who is always on guard, the albinos of this breed are nervous, cowardly, unpredictable and not too smart.

Although some dog handlers are still trying to establish a light coat color as inherent in the breed and develop a normal type of white Doberman, the International Kennel Federation (FCI) does not agree to put it into standards. At all competitions and exhibitions such dogs will be disqualified, as their white or light cream color is considered a congenital defect.

Despite all this, there are those who buy similar dogs at fabulous prices (Doberman albino puppies are twice as expensive as regular puppies). The owners of such pets need not only to adapt the dog, trying to develop and consolidate all the best qualities of the breed, but also constantly monitor it and its health, sometimes spending a lot of time, money and money on this. Moreover, often the life of albinos is almost two times shorter than that of their ordinary counterparts.

If you still have a Doberman albino for one reason or another, then love him for who he is and try to make his life as comfortable and happy as possible, knowing about all the difficulties that he has to overcome, including in this world. In the end, no matter what color of coat he has and whatever diseases he is predicted to be, this is a living creature that is waiting for your love and affection. And if you give them to him, then it will pay off handsomely: after all, who, no matter how dogs, knows how to appreciate kindness and care. Regardless of breed and color.
